My Story

The man behind the pen, the face behind the camera

Finding my Words

Some people are fortunate enough to discover their passion early in life. For me, it was writing—a love that took root as soon as I learned how to turn letters into words and words into stories. I’ve always preferred writing to speaking, as my thoughts often race faster than my tongue can keep up. Writing allows me to pause, reflect, and express myself clearly and authentically. It’s my way of calming the chaos and refining my creative ideas until they feel just right.

As for my tone of voice? It’s conversational, personal, and engaging—crafted to keep readers hooked from start to finish. I write the way I enjoy reading: smooth, rhythmic, and clear, because if the words don’t flow, the story gets lost. Whether writing for myself or others, my goal is to create something authentic, relatable, and meaningful. When the moment calls for it, I love weaving in a touch of humor—not the kind that leaves you in stitches, but a subtle, charming wit that adds a playful twist to the text.

Around the time I mastered spelling my name—so proud! Or maybe it was the thrill of rocking that DiCaprio hairstyle on picture day.

Streets & Faces

My passion for photography didn’t come as naturally as writing, and it wasn’t until my thirties that I finally bought my first camera. Why so late? Perhaps my lack of drawing skills—honestly, my 7-year-old daughter outshines me—made me think I lacked artistic talent. But when I finally took a shot at photography, something clicked immediately (pun fully intended). My journey started with street photography, where I spent countless hours wandering the streets of Copenhagen. This passion, or should I say obsession, naturally evolved into portrait photography, blending my love for the art with my interest in people.

My portrait approach mirrors my street photography: I’m drawn to reflections, light and shadow interplay, vibrant colors, and captivating geometry. Street photography was in many ways the perfect training ground, sharpening my skills in anticipation, observation, and visual storytelling—skills that now breathe life into my portraits. Below is a mix of my street and portrait shots.

Two Worlds, One Story

To some, writing and photography might seem like two entirely different worlds, but for me, they blend seamlessly. Together, they allow me to tell stories that resonate on multiple levels, blending visuals and narratives into something truly impactful. This isn’t just a website or a business—it’s a reflection of who I am and what I love; my ultimate form of self-expression. Every page is crafted with care, every image and word chosen with intention.

Here are a few examples where words and photos come together, enhancing each other. For more, check out my Urban Stories page.

Time flies, or so I was told, but I let it drift as life took hold. Countless dreams, yet few unfold—how swiftly I’ve grown old

Faded Frequencies, Echoes of Memories

Oh, I’m Barry, by the way

I was so lost in my own artsy ramblings that I totally forgot to introduce myself—my bad! I’m Barry, 35 years old, and a father of two. I moved to Copenhagen in 2016 after meeting my girlfriend on a tropical island in Thailand. The decision was a no-brainer: I was working as a freelance copywriter, and my rental contract had ended, leaving me with no strong ties to my previous hometown, Amsterdam. Plus, I was head over heels, and we all know long-distance relationships don’t exactly have the best track record.

For the past six years, I’ve worked as a Copywriter, Translator, and Language Manager in the tech industry. Now, I’m diving into what I love most: storytelling—through both writing and photography. Even when taking pictures of my kids, I can’t resist turning the moment into a story, as you’ll see in the photos below.
